Mental Evaluation for Social Security Disability (SSI & SSDI) 2018-09-08T16:38:30+00:00

The United States Social Security Administration (SSA)provides U.S. citizens with two programs that provide benefits based on disability: the Social Security disability insurance program (SSDI) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.

A section of the law allows for the mental disorders, which are root cause of the disability claim, to be evaluated and presented to the court.

The mental disorders listed by the SSA, consist of 11 categories:

  • Neurocognitive disorders (12.02);
  • Schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders (12.03);
  • Depressive, bipolar and related disorders (12.04);
  • Intellectual disorder (12.05);
  • Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders (12.06);
  • Somatic symptom and related disorders (12.07);
  • Personality and impulse-control disorders (12.08);
  • Autism spectrum disorder (12.10);
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders (12.11);
  • Eating disorders (12.13);
  • and trauma- and stressor-related disorders (12.15).

Dr. Dean Aslinia offers a variety of psychological assessments to help determine if you meet the requirements set forth by the SSA. Typically the law firm handling your disability claim will contact and inform me of the types of assessments the judge has required or would be beneficial to have included in your claim.

Sometimes law firms are unsure which package to order for their clients.  The below recommendations might help in making the determination of which package might be most suitable for your clients:

  • Neurocognitive Testing Package: This package is suitable for any client exhibiting significant memory loss, or carries a diagnosis of dementia.
  • Pain, Anxiety, Depression Testing Package: if any kind of a history of injury, surgery, or pain is present for the client this package is best suitable to evaluate the impact of pain on their daily functioning in addition to determining if any links to depression and anxiety exist as a result of the pain.
  • Mental Health Testing Package: If there is a history of mental health, mood disorders or personality disorder with any psychotropic medication use or previous psychiatric hospitalization,  this package can determine all the diagnostic considerations and limitation for this client.
  • Personality Disorder Testing Package: If a client has been incarcerated, has serve or active psychosis, or any homicidal ideations, this package would be best suitable for determining deeper levels of psychopathology or personality disorders.
